The global number of novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV/COVID-19) cases keeps going up!
Our Trudeau government is NOT doing enough to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus in Canada and protect Canadians. Experts at the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other leading institutions worldwide are predicting a global pandemic.
The United States and more than 30 of our allied countries are being much more proactive to slow down the spread of the virus in their populations to protect their citizens. Canada needs to protect Canadians by following recommendations of the United States’ National Institute of Health and CDC already enforced by the United States, United Kingdom Australia, New Zealand, Israel, India and numerous other Asian, African and European countries. For example,
- “Effective February 2, 2020 at 5pm, the U.S. government suspended entry of foreign nationals who have been in China within the past 14 days.
- U.S. citizens, residents and their immediate family members who have been in Hubei province and other parts of mainland China are allowed to enter the United States, but they are subject to health monitoring and possible quarantine for up to 14 days.“
- these countries have also restricted entry to all travellers and flights from China, and all travellers and flights connecting via China

During the 2002-3 SARS epidemic, outside of Asia, Canada was hardest hit with 438 people infected and 44 deaths. All Canadian deaths were in the Toronto area. The US had zero SARS deaths. Over approximately 1.5 years, 8,098 people worldwide were infected with SARS with 774 deaths.
According to the United States’ National Institute of Health Director, Dr. Anthony Kauci, novel coronavirus “is rapidly accelerating and this is an unprecedented situation”. In just 2 months, the number of people infected with novel coronavirus and the number of deaths in just China alone has surpassed the number infected and killed by SARS in the entire world over 1.5 years.
As of March 3, 2020, latest reported novel coronavirus cases:
– 92,835 confirmed cases worldwide
– 3,168 fatalities
– 7,161 in serious and critical condition
– 48,469 recovered
– most cases in China
– 79 countries reporting cases
– 30 total cases in Canada (20 in ON, 9 in BC, 1 in QC)
Concerning analysis from Professor Neil Ferguson of the United Kingdom’s Institute for Disease and Emergency Analytic (IDEA) is that likely only 10% of novel coronavirus infections are being detected and publicly reported in China. IDEA suspects there may be 50,000 new infections a day in China with the epidemic doubling in size every five days. This is a rapidly-evolving and internationally-declared public health emergency. The Government of Canada must act immediately to adopt the NIH and CDC’s current recommendations and promptly keep up with adopting updated NIH and CDC recommendations as they arise. This includes the Government of Canada acting immediately to adopt the NIH and CDC’s current recommendations with 14-day quarantine measures for all travellers from/via China, and entry restrictions for all travellers and flights from/via China.
The Trudeau government must immediately take these actions to protect all Canadians.
